Education

A quick recap about my background

I belong to a Bilingual country where more than 75% of the population are native French speakers including me. Having pursued a purely Francophone education throughout my journey in secondary school, I decided to take a bold step to study computer engineering in a purely Anglo-Saxon University. Even Though I have a lot of success in my career as a software engineer, I keep struggling with the English language. I believe English will be key to more of my professional success in the future, especially if I want to get more exposure and speak to the world like I'm doing right now. This has pushed me to acquire an acceptable level which permits me to thrive in my professional career as well as my day to day life.

Throughout this post, I'll be sharing my experience of how my dream became a reality.

I recommend you read this article till the end. It may change many things in your life and I will be giving you all the steps I follow to get to this level.

I can tell you with confidence that at the end of this article you will be able to write professional documents, emails, and even more, just with your little English you know so far plus a single tool called Grammarly.

To your attention: for this to work well you need to know the basic English that can allow you to construct meaningful sentences or in other words, you should be able to read and understand English.

But, don’t panic, we have a great and reliable friend called Grammarly which we probably don’t know about and how it can save our life.

Grammarly

Grammarly is a tool that analyzes your writing and suggests improvements. It does that by automatically detecting potential grammar, spelling, punctuation, word choice, and style mistakes in writing, following standard prescriptive grammar. Its internal algorithms make it possible to flag potential issues in the text and suggest context-specific corrections for grammar, spelling, wordiness, style, punctuation, and plagiarism

In short, Grammarly is your English Assistant that will ensure that everything is written perfectly.

Next, we are going to see the two cases in which we can use Grammarly to do our job. Then, we are going to follow a step by step guide to install Grammarly into our browser, Microsoft Word, and outlook for professional emails.

1. Grammarly for boggers

We all know that it is very easy to write a message to a friend, you don’t need to worry about typos or your writing style as long as you both understand each other. However writing to thousands, if not millions of people out there requires a whole lot of attention and much understanding of the subject in question.

Unlike a message to a friend, a blog can be thousands of words long and as humans, we are not perfect, we make mistakes. That’s why there is always the need to edit and proof read contents before they are being published. For me, this is the most difficult part. I prefer it when someone else goes through my content to spot out all the errors I made. But that’s not always the case.

Grammarly

As a blogger creating high-quality content is one of the key factors that contribute to your success online, and we all know that great content should be error-free, clear, and engaging. Having this in mind doesn’t only contribute to good rankings in search engines but it also makes your readers come back for more as you give them the right impressions.

Grammarly is considered the best online grammar checking software. It’s very accurate, easy to use, and integrates across numerous platforms, browsers, and most popular tools and software. For this reason, I’ll like to share with you numerous reasons to consider using Grammarly as a blogger. So let’ hop in.

You sound professional: Yeah you get it right. Using Grammarly as a blogger will make you sound more professional. Grammarly goes beyond correcting basic errors like spelling, and punctuation to providing advanced features like suggesting the appropriate words to use in a specific context, regulating your tone, removing the unnecessary word and more thereby polishing your content and leaving behind a good impression of you to your readers.

It saves you time: As the old saying goes. Time is money and money is time.

As a blogger your time is limited and you need more quality content out there to keep your readers engaged.

Instead of you spending countless hours editing your content without completely removing the errors, why not simply pass your document through Grammarly and have everything fixed in the shortest time possible? Doing this will not only save you time but it will also save you some money and hard times.

It follows you everywhere: The greatest thing about Grammarly is the fact that you can use it pretty much everywhere you type, with no form of configuration required. No matter which operating system you are using you can use Grammarly. It seemingly provides extensions to your favorite browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge) with just a few clicks.

Grammarly is easy to use: Grammarly can make your blog writing and publishing work much easier due to its simplicity and ease of use. Simply hover over the error highlighted with the red line by Grammarly and perform a click. That’s all you have to do, Grammarly will take care of the rest.

Plagiarism: According to Wikipedia “Plagiarism is the representation of another author's language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as one's original work. Plagiarism is considered academic dishonesty and a breach of journalistic ethics. It is subject to sanctions such as penalties, suspension, expulsion from school or work, substantial fines, and even incarceration.”

Just from the definition of plagiarism and its possible consequences we can quickly understand that it’s something to avoid. Grammarly detects plagiarism, by comparing your writing to billions of web pages across the web. Which can be very useful in the context of academic content. However, this feature requires a premium subscription.

One of the easiest ways to avoid plagiarism is by citing your source, including quotations, and even crediting the author.

Overall quality: As a blogger, the way you mold out your content determines a huge part of your success. It’s only via your content that your readers might want to come back for more. The more returning website visitors you have the more traffic you make. I believe using Grammarly is a great contribution to help you achieve this. It has all the features you will need to succeed as a writer and I will, therefore, recommend it to you as one of the best tools out there for bloggers.

2. Grammarly for professionals

Writing to your boss or customers needs more attention and as a professional Grammarly gives you everything you need to ace-like a pro...

Integration with all professional tools: The greatest thing about Grammarly is the fact that you can use it pretty much in all your professional tools where some typing is required with just a one-click installation. No matter which operating system you are using. It seemingly provides extensions to your favorite tools:

Microsoft Word.

Microsoft Outlook

Writing style: When you open a new document with Grammarly you can quickly set goals for your writings to let Grammarly adapt to your writing style.

You can set writing goals based on:

  1. Your Intent e.g. inform, tell a story or describe
  2. Audience e.g. general or expert
  3. Style e.g. formal or informal
  4. Emotion e.g. mild or strong
  5. Domain e.g. academic, business or technical

Grammarly delivers insights based on these goals.

Your tone: Grammarly tone detector enables you to deliver your message the way you intend to. When speaking with someone face to face you can easily feel and understand what they say by looking at their facial expression and body language but through writing, this can only be achieved by using the appropriate words. By analyzing your word choice, phrasing, punctuation, and even capitalization, Grammarly’s tone checker can identify the tone of your message before it gets out there.

Grammarly can tell if you sound friendly, optimistic, confident, concerned, informal, and more just by analyzing your words. Check out an example here.

Grammarly is free (this is repetition. If you read the previous section please skip it) With a free account, you can improve and strengthen everyday writing which is pretty much what you need, But If you are a blogger, who values good and high-quality content a Premium account will help you step up your game not only within your blogging niche but wherever else you need your communication to sound as polished as possible.

3. Grammarly to improve your English

Apart from all the above-mentioned reasons, Grammarly will also do this for you to improve your English.

I guess you still don’t know which of them is correct 😊. At times you simply don’t use the appropriate words (e.g. Instead of saying “I’m very happy…” why not say “I’m thrilled…”, “I’m pleased…” or “I’m delighted”).
